以「Longer」一曲享譽全球的Dan Fogelberg，以他輕柔的歌喉、清澈的吉他聲及動人的詞句使他擁有"民謠詩人"的美稱。

1951年8月13日生於伊利諾州 (Illinois)的Dan Fogelberg，十四歲開始學習鋼琴, 後來又進一步學習吉他和作曲，為了往歌唱圈發展，丹佛格伯毅然放棄伊利諾大學藝術系學士學位，開始他的歌唱事業，移居加州，追隨 Van Morrison 到各地參加巡迴演唱會。

1973年與哥倫比亞唱片公司簽約，發行的第一張專輯 "Home Free" 成績並不理想。隨後轉加入 Epic 唱片公司，第二張專輯"Souvenirs"於1975年推出後，佳評如潮，不但獲得樂評家的讚賞，也獲得商業上的成功，得到專輯排行第十七名。

Dan Fogelberg擠身進入美國知名作曲家兼歌手的行列。他歌唱生涯在商業上最成功的一張專輯則是於1980年推出的"Phoenix"，獲得第三名，並 成功打入英國排行，至今仍讓人津津樂道的抒情佳作"Longer"並獲得亞軍好成績。

這是Dan Fogelberg一首自傳式的作品，主要卻是講他父親的故事，以及父親對音樂的熱愛所帶給他的影響，是一首相當感人的歌。
